Tolland Public Library
Trustees Meeting Minutes
March 14, 2007
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chair, Carolyn Locke, at 3:40 p.m.
Present: Carolyn Locke, Librarian, Jessica Kelmelis and Penny Babbitt. Absent: Gloria Gery
Meeting Minutes: Minutes of the December 13, 2006 Trustees meeting were approved as written.
Old Business:
Capital Projects:
Shoring up Library Floor: Again no progress has been made on shoring up the Library floor. Carolyn went to the Selectmen’s meeting and questioned Eric Munson about the project. He wanted to wait until the ground froze so they could get a dumpster in. Now that it’s spring and nothing has been done, Carolyn will send a reminder note asking what now and can it be done during the dry summer. Jessica will question Eric about shoring up even though the basement has not been cleared as the debris is not in the way of the beams.
Draperies: Hanging the valences is still on Jessica’s list of things to do.
Refrigerator: Jessica spoke with J&B Appliances in Winsted. They have a 19 cubic foot refrigerator for $350-$400.
Broadband Access: The library now has satellite access and will have wireless by next week. There is $500 in the budget to purchase a wireless printer, scanner and fax machine. Questioned whether a second CPU for public use should be purchased.
Internet Use Policy: Jessica will send a draft of the Internet Use Policy to all Trustees via email. The policy needs to be in place by June. The timing question (length of time online) needs to be resolved and revised as need arises.
Nature of Tolland Day: No plans for this year. The Cultural Council may be planning some events on the green.
Library Budget – 2007: Jessica will speak to Wayne Carr regarding the paint cost for outside trim.
Children’s Corner: The children’s corner has been renamed the Charlotte W. Clark Children’s Corner. Two plaques have been made, one to be hung in the corner and the other given to placeCityCharlotte.
Town of placeCityTolland Flag: No interest so far in the Tolland flag design. Jessica to pursue again.
New Business
Trustee Election: Penny Babbitt’s term is up for reelection. She is willing to run again.
Toddler Reading Group: Jessica will run a once a week, ½ hour to 45 minute reading group for toddlers age 0-4 years old during May and June. Parents must accompany the child and sit with the child during the reading period. The children will be given a token sticker, bookmark, etc.
Museum Passes: The Norman Rockwell Museum pass is good until August. Jessica will check into similar passes for Sturbridge and the Hancock Shaker Village museums to determine the costs.
Next Meeting: The next Trustees Meeting will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 3:30 p.m.
Meeting Adjourned: The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Penny Babbitt, Trustee
